Fashion Revolution Week 2018

The University of PortsmouthFaculty of Creative and Cultural Industries are thrilled to share the exciting events happening in Fashion Revolution Week 2018.

Fashion Revolution is a global movement that celebrates fashion as a positive influence, whilst also scrutinising industry practices and raising awareness of the fashion industry’s most pressing issues.

Between Tuesday 24th April and Friday 27th April, the University of Portsmouth will be celebrating Fashion Revolution week with a variety of exciting activities, brought to you by our Fashion and Textile Design students and staff.

Print the Revolution: Tuesday 24th April

For a small donation to Fashion Revolution, Level 4 students will give your old clothes a new lease of life.

Are you holding on to a great T-shirt that has a small stain or mark? Our Fashion and Textile Design students will print an amazing textile design over it, leaving you with an entirely unique garment to wear!

Clothes Swap: 12pm – 2pm Wednesday 25th April

The popular Clothes Swap returns for 2018! Bring in your quality items of clothing that you have outgrown or left unloved, and swap them for something else!

For each item you bring, you can swap it for another completely free! If you have nothing to swap, you can buy an item for just £1 each.

All items for the clothes swap must be brought to the Eldon Foyer by 11am on Wednesday 25th April.

The team are particularly eager to have more menswear this year!

The Clothes Swap will be accompanied by a Who Made my Clothes? and Loved Clothes Last social media takeover by staff and students.To follow the action as it happens, watch out for #UoPFashRev #FashRev and #WhoMadeMyClothes on social media.

Trashion REMAKE: Thursday 26th April

Fashion students will deconstruct and reconstruct items that were left unclaimed at the Clothes Swap, to make new clothes for themselves to wear and love.

SU:STAIN Workshop and Talk: Thursday 26th April

At 2pm, in the Fashion and Textiles Studio, Georgina Hooper from SU:STAIN will hold a workshop and talk entitled, Mind over Matter/Mindful over Material: The Interrelations of Textiles, Repair and Mindfulness.

Georgina is a Designer, Artist and Educator, who is well qualified to lead this thoughtful and creative session, in which attendees will be encouraged to bring consciousness to their creation and consumption choices.

You can book your place on Eventbrite, but places are extremely limited, whilst this session is completely free, a donation to Fashion Revolution would be highly appreciated.

Fashion First Aid: Friday 27th April

For a small donation, two final year Fashion and Textile Design students will mend, repair and alter your well loved clothes so you can keep wearing them. Whether it’s a missing button, or a pair of trouser that need taking up, the team can do it!

Trashion REMAKE Photoshoot: Friday 27th April

Students will be capturing the outcomes of their upcycling in a photoshoot, which you can check out by searching #UoPFashRev on social media.

My Life in Vintage Lecture: Friday 27th April

Fashion historian, commentator and BBC broadcaster, Amber Butchart will be presenting her talk, My Life in Vintage, at 5.30pm, which you can find out more about here.
