Christmas is coming – cafe competition and carol service

Vote for ‘best dressed’ cafe and win a week of free lunches

Catering colleagues have again been challenged to transform cafes around campus with a Christmas makeover to get everyone into the festive spirit.

The challenge will involve creating decorations out of recycled materials to promote an eco-friendly Christmas.

Staff and students will have three weeks – from Wednesday 27 November until 18 December – to vote for their favourite cafe’s decorations.

Everyone who votes will get a free Christmas muffin – and one lucky winner will receive £30 credit to spend on food and drink at university outlets – worth a week of free lunches.

How to vote – and win

You can vote by picking up a loyalty card from any University cafe, and collecting stamps for each different one you visit.

You don’t need to make a purchase to get a stamp (unless you want to) but once you collect 4 different stamps from different cafes, you can then submit your vote for your favourite.

Everyone who votes will receive a free Christmas muffin! And one participant drawn from the completed entries will win £30 credit on their staff or student card, to spend on food and drink at university outlets. This is roughly worth a week of free lunches.

The best dressed cafe

Votes from staff and students will feed into the decision by a judging panel, which will be visiting all cafes and reviewing their creativity and sustainability.

The winning cafe will be announced on Friday 20 December.

Christmas at the Cathedral

Students, staff and their families are also invited to the University’s “Christmas at the Cathedral” event at St John’s Catholic Cathedral on Monday 9 December.

There will be fun activities for all the family and tasty Christmas refreshments from 5.00pm onwards. The University’s Choir will be providing the music at the Carol Service, which begins at 6.30pm. Guests are welcome to turn up on the night and there is no need to book.

The evening will also include an exhibition of DIY trees, made up of entries to this year’s Christmas Tree Competition.

How exactly do we submit votes?

    • Hello, when you have collected 4 stamps, write on the back your vote and your email address in order to enter the prize draw and give it in at one of the cafes.
