8 things to know about Freshers Week

1. Make sure you attend Freshers Fayre – 18 & 19 Sept

The Freshers Fayre is taking place across two days on Wednesday 18 and Thursday 19 September at 10am at the Students’ Union. It’s a free event where you will discover over 120 sports clubs, societies, media groups, and volunteering opportunities. You’ll also find out more about our services on offer such as the University Surgery, Sport and Recreation, the University gym and more. 

Definitely one not to miss, if only for the freebies!

2. The free Uni bus will be running

The free University bus will start running on its full timetable from this week following a circular route with frequent stops between Southsea and campus. All you need is your student card to show the driver as you get on board.

3. The Residence Life Team are on hand to help

The Residence Life team can help with day to day welfare of students living in halls and are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week for every week of your stay. If you have anything causing you concern, whether it is difficulties with flatmates or concerns about whether you’re on the right course, they are there to listen and advise.

4. Welcome events will be running all month

The Students’ Union will be hosting a whole month of activities and events across September, including a silent disco, sports and societies taster sessions, an activity day with climbing walls and outdoor games, and a sports day featuring all the classics like egg and spoon race, sack race and more.

5. You can sign up to the University gym with our early bird offer and win a pair of Beats headphones

Sign up to the Uni gym and take advantage of the early bird offer of £99 for the whole year if you join before 1 October. You’ll have unlimited use of the gym, access to over 50 taught classes, a number of discounts and you’ll also be able to use over 60 university gyms worldwide for when you’re at home during the holidays. Sign up before 1 October to be entered into a prize draw for a pair of Beats headphones. 

6. Welcome Ambassadors will help you settle in

Welcome Ambassadors are current students, who share their own experiences of starting uni, and put you in touch with other new students who share your interests. Follow them on Facebook and Instagram and look out for them around campus. 

7. A safe space will be available in Guildhall Walk

Safe Space is a place you can go if you need help on a night out. You can get treatment, advice and support in a safe, confidential and non-judgemental environment from trained medics who are equipped to deal with minor injuries and give medical advice.

8. Where to get your UoP Merchandise

You can get University branded merchandise such as hoodies, t-shirts, mugs and notepads from the Union shop based in the Students’ Union. There are tonnes of clothing and other merch available, including a personalisation service so you can add a personal touch to your hoodies or sportswear.
