New Cycle to Work Scheme launches

A new Cycle to Work scheme, to help staff to save money on bikes and cycling accessories, is now available.

Cycle to Work is a government scheme that helps employees save money on a commute to work by allowing them to purchase a new bike and spread the cost over a year through payroll deductions. Staff can save around a third on the cost of a new bike and accessories, depending on their tax band.

For example someone on a salary under £50,000, buying a bike costing £500, could save over £200.

Our new provider – CycleSolutions

The University’s scheme is being provided by CycleSolutions. Applications open from now and run throughout the year, with a maximum spend of £1,000.

CycleSolutions’ online platform makes it easy to search for the perfect bike for commuting to work, along with a range of accessories for purchase. Total savings and full scheme details are available on the CycleSolutions’ website – or just call CycleSolutions.

Find a bike that suits you

Two CycleSolutions roadshows will give staff the chance to see in person some of the bikes that are available – come along to:

Cafe Coco, Cambridge Rd, Portsmouth PO1 2EF
Thursday 12 September, 11.00am – 3.00pm

Dennis Sciama Building, Burnaby Road, Portsmouth, PO1 3FX
Wednesday 25 September, 11.00am – 3.00pm

Keeping your new bike safe, secure and insured

As a reminder, no matter where you leave your bicycle, use a D-lock or two to attach the frame and both wheels to the stand. These can be easily purchased through the scheme or cycle shops around the city. D-locks and insuring your bicycle are well worth the investment.

Find out more about all our bicycle facilities, bike security and cycling discounts on the Travel to Work webpages.

There’s also a new map highlighting where you can lock your bike and take a shower if you have had a long ride.
