National award for Marketing and Communication’s ‘wow factor’

The University’s Marketing and Communications Department has won a Silver Award for Marketing Team of the Year at the National Heist Awards for education marketing.

The team was recognised by judges for having the ‘wow factor’ for delivering a range of projects including:

  • Campaigns – change in approach from cyclical to an ‘always on’ presence in an increasingly competitive student recruitment market; working in collaboration with Faculty colleagues on a fully integrated targeted data-driven campaign which has led to year on year increases in student enrolments.
  • CRM – introduction of a Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system to communicate with and nurture potential students to choose Portsmouth as their university for September 2019.
  • Website – driving forward a Web transformation project to create a new website by moving content from 350+ sub sites; working with colleagues across the University whilst maintaining best practice to engage audiences and help them find the information they need quickly.
  • Rebrand – rolling out the University’s new Brand to reflect its position as a modern, dynamic and forward-thinking institution. This was co-created after consultation with over 10,000 people across the University and wider community, and included developing new key messages, tone of voice, design style, logo, photography and Marketing Portal for staff to easily access branded templates, photos and logos.

Dorothy Albrecht, Director of Marketing, Advancement and Communications, said: “I’m incredibly proud of my amazing team. It’s been a journey over the past few years, delivering a number of major change projects simultaneously, working collaboratively with colleagues across the University, and embedding a continual drive and desire to be the best in a very competitive sector. We are all looking forward to our next chapter.”

Graham Galbraith, Vice-Chancellor, added: “The team have been exceptional in their creative approach and energy. They have transformed how we market the University in content, style, reach through digital media and also raising our research profile internationally. Being the only University in the south to have achieved growth in the last three years, in what is considered an incredibly competitive environment, is due in no small part to the outstanding work of a team of passionate, committed and talented Marketing and Communications professionals.”
