Matrix Standard for our Careers and Employability

Our Department of Careers and Employability has received a highly coveted Matrix Accreditation following a recent three day assessment.

The Matrix Standard is a unique quality standard for organisations to assess and measure their advice and support services, which ultimately supports individuals in their choice of career, learning, work and life goals. It allows providers to review their current advice and guidance practices and make improvements on the services provided to their stakeholders.

A number of key strengths of the service were recognised including evaluation processes, the use of technology and innovative practices including the ‘Careers Fair Plus’ App, use of Nearpod, live streaming of sessions and webinars. In addition, the assessor said that the students were full of praise for the support we offer and said staff in Careers and Employability always “go the extra mile”.

Going through the process was a valuable experience for the department. It is a fantastic acknowledgement of the high quality information, advice and guidance we provide to our students here at the University of Portsmouth.

The department would particularly like to thank everyone that works closely with the service that kindly gave up their time to discuss their experience with the assessor during her visit, including our university colleagues, external partners, clients and other stakeholders.

The Assessment Team was suitably impressed and commented:

“If there was a ‘pass+’ standard available I would gladly award this to the department based on the calibre of the offer and service that your staff provides.”

Julia Hughes, Head of Service said ” This is the fourth time that the Careers and Employability Service have gone through the Matrix Assessment since 2008 and it is so rewarding to hear that our services continue to develop and improve and are highly valued by students and staff at the university”
