Demolition works to start at Langstone

Demolition works at Langstone campus are due to start later this month.

The contractor will start preparing parts of the site for demolition from 23 April with the main works starting on 29 April.

The demolition site will surround the three-storey QEQM accommodation block and the student restaurant facilities. The buildings are beyond economical repair and there are concerns they will be used unlawfully.

The main car park, sports and changing facilities will remain and stay open throughout the works. A traffic management plan is being put in place by the main contractor Hughes and Salvidge and our engineering consultants Thomasons.

Access will also continue to be available for the newer East, West and Trust buildings and Barnard Tower, which will remain in place.

Student accommodation at Langstone campus closed on 31 July 2018 as students chose more popular and modern university halls and accommodation provided by external companies in the city centre and Southsea.

The demolition works are due to be completed by 31 July 2019.

Plans for the future of the site will be developed, with several options being considered.

  1. Hi. Will the buses (no.13) be affected going down Furze Lane as I rely on these to get to and from work?

    • Thanks for your question. The works will not have any impact on buses. Thanks again
