Car parking consultation closes on 12 April

The final car parking consultation event will take place in LT2 Richmond Building from 10.00am, where spaces are available. Please consider attending the final event or lodge your question/ make a comment on the business case at travelplan@port.ac.uk.

At the event, Vice-Chancellor Graham Galbraith will be joined by Bernie Topham (Chief Operating Officer & Deputy Vice-Chancellor), Fiona Bell (Director of Estates & Campus Services) and Becky Hopkins (Deputy Director of HR People Services) for a brief presentation on the proposals, before opening the floor for questions.

The proposed changes are outlined in a business case, which has been developed by a car parking working group with representatives from the University and the unions (UCU and UNISON).

We are particularly interested in your contributions on:

  • Evidence requirements for caring exemptions
  • Exemptions for staff working unsocial hours
  • Phasing of charges for lower grade staff

Consultation FAQs and Themes

For the latest FAQs please keep up to date with common questions being asked.

The process is being used by staff to raise interesting alternative solutions to help solve the lack of spaces. The most common questions are about the availability of occasional daily/ seasonal permits, flexi working to help alleviate the problem and extra public transport discounts and routes.

The most frequent comment remains the disproportionately higher price increase for lower grade staff and the short introduction timescale. Second is comment about alternative solutions and then the need for a car to complete daily work based duties.

Overall, there is general acknowledgement that something has to change to improve the current car parking frustrations.

Please keep your questions and comments coming.
