New Welcome Ambassadors wanted

Following a very successful launch year, recruitment is open for a new cohort of Welcome Ambassadors to join this award-winning scheme focused on welcoming new students and building a sense of community and belonging.

Welcome Ambassadors Jordan Rydlewski and Hassan Raza were up on stage this week collecting a Vice Chancellor’s Award for Excellence on behalf of the 80 students who qualified as Welcome Ambassadors last year. The Welcome Ambassadors were being recognised for their pioneering contribution in a programme which upholds the University’s values of promoting an inclusive community. The scheme has attracted national press attention and was praised by the Universities Minister and the Department for Education as a beacon of good practice in supporting students’ transition to university.

Recruitment is now open for generation two – a new group of students ready to build on this success and make their contribution to shaping and developing the Welcome Ambassadors scheme. Are you going to be at the University next year and are ready to work as part of the new Welcome Ambassadors team ensuring that the next cohort of new students are actively welcomed and supported to settle into life at the University of Portsmouth?

There is a large social media component to the role, especially during the summer as new students prepare to come to university. Welcome Ambassadors will share supportive content and engage with new students to promote networking and a sense of community. They will also have a strong presence on campus during induction and the first few weeks of the new year, and will work together to organise welcome events.

To sign up and to find out more, join our training and sign-up event which is taking place on Wednesday 8th May from 1.30pm to 3.30pm. The event will explain all you need to do to qualify as a Welcome Ambassador, and is an essential first step in qualifying for the role. Book your place.

  1. Next year shall be my fourth year as I have currently suspended my studies so will be able to inform future students on the care and advice available within the university.
