“Gender Equality – are we there yet?” – Booking now open

Booking is now open for “Gender Equality – are we there yet?”, a conference open to all staff, focusing on gender equality and diversity.  The conference will be held on Wednesday 15 May 2019, 1.00PM – 4.00PM and will be opened by the Vice-Chancellor, Graham Galbraith. This is the University’s seventh annual Athena SWAN conference.

Our line-up of external and internal speakers will include:- Dr Deborah Gabriel, Senior Academic, Faculty of Media and Communication, Bournemouth University.  Deborah is also the Founder and Director of Black British Academics and Co-Chair of Bournemouth University’s Race Equality Charter Steering Group. Deborah’s presentation is entitled “Transforming the Ivory Tower: Decolonising, Democratising and Diversifying HE to Achieve Gender Equality for All”

Dr Jay Stewart, MBE, CEO and co-founder of Gendered Intelligence, an organisation working with the trans community and those who impact on trans lives, with a particular focus on supporting young trans people aged 8-25.  Jay’s presentation is entitled “What is Gender Diversity?”

Helen Dunn, Deputy Director HR, and Dave Small, Equality and Diversity Manager.  Drawing on evidence from recent staff surveys, their presentation is entitled “Our University Culture – what is it and how can we improve it?”

We would particularly encourage men to attend, since they have traditionally been under-represented at these excellent Conferences.

Don’t delay, book your ticket now through Eventbrite.

And when you have booked your place you can talk about the Conference on social media using the hashtag #AreWeThereYetUoP
