University of Portsmouth alumna nominated for a global award

A University of Portsmouth graduate has been announced as one of nine finalists nominated for a prestigious award at the 2019 Study UK Alumni Awards in Kuwait. The awards are hosted by the British Council.

Dr Rania Azmi has been nominated in the Entrepreneurial Award category for her work in Kuwait. Rania’s initiatives have impacted the community through her cancer support association and she was also designated a ‘Women of Influence’ by the Women’s Speakers Association.

Rania graduated from a Goal Programming Research Doctorate in Portsmouth which she said ‘bridged the gap between academia and practical work, from leading my own firm, Alexandrite Decisions, to founding a charity organisation for cancer patients support.’ You can read more about Rania in her student story.

The Alumni Awards celebrate the outstanding achievement of alumni and showcase the impact and value of a UK higher education. Award winners and finalists are leaders in their fields who have used their experience of studying at a UK university to make a positive contribution to their communities, profession and countries.

This is the first year that the awards are celebrated at a national level to honour the achievements of alumni based in Kuwait. The award ceremony is taking place on Tuesday 5 March. Rania is also nominated for a global award with finalists being announced on 21 March. The University is incredibly proud of Rania’s achievements and wants to congratulate her on this prestigious nomination.
