2019 Staff vs Students Charity Football Match – Staff Applications Open

The Department of Sport and Recreation are inviting all male staff members at the University to formally register their interest in being part of the 4th Annual Staff vs Students charity football match, taking place on the hallowed turf of Fratton Park in May 2019.

The annual event has raised over £25,000 for various charities including Brain Tumour Research. The staff team were unlucky to lose last year, but are still 2-1 up overall. Since the events inception in 2016 staff have won 2-1, 3-1 and lost 4-0. We’re looking to get the trophy back this year and need your help.

If you’re interested in being part of this exciting event please register your interest through this Google Form. The form should be completed and submitted by Monday 7 January 2019 to confirm your attendance to the open trials. The trials will take place on Thursday 17 January 2019 at 9:00pm and Friday 18 January 2019 at 8:00pm.

Trials will be held at the University’s Langstone Sports Site, Furze Lane, Portsmouth, PO4 8LW. Please arrive 15 minutes before the trial is due to start. If you are a student looking to register your interest, you should in the first instance speak to the students union:

  1. “All staff members”? I think it should be clear there is actually only a male team…

    • Thanks for your comments Louise and Rachael. Yes, you’re correct that the event is only open to males and we’d amended the article to make this clearer. Unfortunately FA rules dictate that we can’t have mixed teams. We have looked into running a separate women’s event but haven’t had enough staff interest in the past. Please email for any further enquires.

  2. Are female staff able to try-out?
