The Media Hub Participates in Hack Pompey Event

The Faculty of Creative and Cultural Industries shares news of the Media Hub participated in the Hack Pompey event that was held at the University of Portsmouth’s brand new Future Technology Centre earlier this month.

Hack Pompey is the biggest Hackathon on the UK South Coast. It is an event held to create a platform for the students and the local community to come together to solve emergent problems or work on ideas with multi-disciplinary like mined-people.

The Media Hub is a research and teaching structure aimed at the integration of disruptive technologies into the built environment. The Media Hub also represents an innovative pedagogical model being coordinated directly by the students (Michael Brewster, Patrick Ciemierkiewicz, Dana Hamdan, Jose Martinez, Adam Burnham, and Benjamin Booth).

The Media Hub joined the Hack Pompey event on the 3 and 4 of November, held at the University of Portsmouth’s brand new Future Technology Centre, and led workshops on digital fabrication and biotech. The Media Hub members also presented the aims and scope of the hub to the other disciplines and showcased the advancement and possibilities of digital tools in the field of Architecture, Urban Planning and Design, as well as the possibility of integration with industrial design and Computer Sciences.

The participation has been met with positive feedback, with groups from other disciplines, such as the IT society, reaching out to discuss the possibility of future collaboration with the Media Hub.
