Learning at Work forms new partnership with Engineering Employers Federation (EEF)

A launch event was held on 30 October in the Future Technology Centre at the University of Portsmouth to celebrate the new partnership between Learning at work and EEF. This partnership is for a number of health and safety courses delivered by EEF and validated by the University. These qualifications include:

  • Diploma in Health, Safety and Risk Management
  • Diploma in International Health, Safety and Risk Management
  • Certificate of Credit in Health and Safety Management
  • Certificate of Credit in International Health and Safety Management

These qualifications allow individuals to gain new knowledge on health and safety, but more importantly, learn how to apply this knowledge in the workplace.

Over 25 employers attended, including Portsmouth Aviation, BAE Systems, Environment Agency, Hampshire County Council and Coopervision. The event was chaired by Mike Punt, Director of Learning at Work with the main speech from Dame Judith Hackitt, Chair of EEF, who was the previous Chair of the Health and Safety Executive. This speech was followed by CPD sessions delivered by Michelle Juchau, Programme Leader in Learning at Work and Chris Newson from EEF on:

  • The role of health and safety with mental health in the workplace
  • Latest developments and legislative update
  • Impact of the sentencing guidelines

The University’s Learning at Work department led the way for many decades in widening access to higher education in the work place. This partnership further enhances the suite of work-based qualifications available from the University of Portsmouth.
