Career and Volunteering Fairs this October

Careers Fair

The Graduate Recruitment and Placement Fair is taking place on Wednesday 10 October at Portsmouth Guildhall and promises to be our busiest yet with over 65 organisations looking to recruit students and graduates from the University of Portsmouth. New companies this year include ITV, BT Group, Nissan, Boeing and more.

Over 70% of our attending organisations are looking to recruit graduates from any discipline, giving you more choice of where you can submit applications.

2,300 students and graduates attended the fair last year and we anticipate a similar number this year. The fair will be open from 11am until 3pm. Come along and get a head start on your job search.

Volunteering Fair

As well as our Careers Fair, we are also hosting another Volunteering Fair this year, which is taking place 12pm-3pm on Wednesday 17 October. The event, which will take place in the 3rd Space at the Students’ Union, will have 45 different not-for-profit organisations attending to promote a wide range of career enhancing volunteer opportunities that will help boost your skills, knowledge and experience as well as your confidence.

Stand-holders will include the British Red Cross, No.6 Cinema, The Office for the Police & Crime Commissioner, Code Club, the Stroke Association and Citizens Advice, with opportunities in front-line support as well as in organisational services. A team of friendly Careers and Employability Service staff will also be on hand to help you explore the opportunities available.

Last year almost 800 students volunteered through the Careers and Employability Service. They recognised that employers increasingly want to see more than a degree on a candidate’s CV. You also need to evidence a strong set of transferable skills relevant to the role you are applying to. Volunteering is a fantastic way to experience different career paths, develop your skills and gain course-related experience to ensure you enter the job market competitively. So don’t be behind the curve – come along to the Volunteering Fair!

  1. can i join this?

    • Of course, you can come along to either of the fairs. Or both! Download the app for more info.

  2. Would love to have gone to both/either faye…..I guess very few student nurses will be able to make it….can you please take into accou t when organising these events that some of us have a working day on placement and don’t have Wednesday afternoons off

    • We are sorry to hear that you will be unable to attend these events. We run them on Wednesday afternoons because this is generally the best time for the majority of students as most courses leave this time free. Of course, we do appreciate that there are some exceptions to this and that Wednesday afternoons will not suit everyone. There will be a specific Nursing Careers Fair running in the new year, and you are welcome to visit the Careers and Employability Service at any point to discuss graduate opportunities or volunteering.
