Scan your Student Card to register attendance at ALL timetabled sessions

Now that teaching is underway, it is important that you record your attendance at ALL of your timetabled sessions by scanning your Student Card at card readers placed outside, or in, teaching rooms. If you do not record your attendance with your Student Card you will be marked as absent.

We all want the best for our students, and research shows good attendance helps students enjoy university and get better grades, minimising the risk of academic failure or withdrawal. By monitoring attendance and engagement, it helps us support students who could benefit from further academic or wellbeing support.

We also undertake attendance monitoring as we have a legal obligation to report attendance to external organisations such as the Student Loan Company and UK Visas and Immigration office. International students on Tier 4 Visas who regularly miss sessions could jeopardise their student visa and therefore be unable to complete their course.

You should be aware that spot checks on attendance monitoring will be carried out throughout the year, and sanctions are in place for students who falsely register anyone’s attendance.

We have published FAQs about the system on MyPort, where you can also find lots of other useful information about your time here at the University. If you have any further questions about the above, please don’t hesitate to contact attendancemonitoring@port.ac.uk.
