Fake UKVI telephone calls

We have recently received reports from a few students that they have been the target of telephone scams. The scammers have targeted students on a Tier 4 visa claiming to be UKVI (UK Visas & Immigration) the Home Office or a UK authority related to Immigration.

The caller claims that the student will be deported or arrested because there is some kind of problem with their visa. In order to solve the problem with the visa they will need to pay several hundred pounds. The scammers have asked for money to be paid to them in person, by Western Union or in iTunes vouchers.

The caller will tell you that you should not contact the University or International Student Advisers about this. The callers also appear to be calling from a legitimate UKVI/Home Office number. UKVI will NEVER call you to ask for money. If you have received such a call please contact the International Student Advice team: international.student.adviser@port.ac.uk. You should also report this to Action Fraud.

Further information and advice can be found on the UKCISA website.
