Cell Block Studios are located at Portsmouth’s Historic Dockyard and provide a unique space for businesses to grow.

The Cell Block was originally built in 1882 and used as a short stay military prison, after the prison shut down in 1912, the building was used as storage by the Dockyard.

The building is now managed by the Portsmouth Naval Base Property Trust, and leased by the University of Portsmouth. In 2014 it went under major renovations and became Cell Block Studios which opened in July 2017.

Portsmouth is fortunate enough to have a range of Art Studio spaces, which allow for people to get physically creative with the use of canvases, models, and more, whilst also providing opportunities to meet like-minded people and potentially work together.

Cell Block Studios provide similar opportunities, but for digital businesses, offering a welcoming community that promotes interaction and collaboration on projects between the varieties of businesses.

This is a beautiful grade one listed Victorian building with original features such as the concrete flooring, wooden floorboards, rustic brick walls and original cell doors.

Each cell has been transformed into a private office, each one comes equipped with stylish modern furniture including, two exclusive Celine desks and two award winning ‘675’ chairs, as well as shelving and two types of lighting, and secure, ultra-fast Virgin Media broadband hub.

The office’s still contain the original wooden bed, which would have once hosted a prisoner, and is now a unique feature for each of the cells.

Members of Cell Block Studios can either rent one desk and share the space with another business, rent both desks and occupy the entire cell, or hot desk around the building from the break out spaces.

These exclusive transformed cells offer digital creative businesses and individuals an unusual, vibrant and inspiring work space to run their businesses from.
