Welcome Ambassadors wanted to be a friendly face to new students

Could you be a friendly face to new students? Could you benefit from certified leadership training and prizes of up to £250?

If the answer is yes then you could be a great Welcome Ambassador. We’re looking for up to 250 current students to join our new scheme. You just need to show you recognise some of the challenges new students face, and that you can work as a team to plan a good welcome.

Every new student will be assigned to a ‘welcome group’ of around 15 other new students who they will meet as part of a closed online group during September 2018, with the option to meet up in person in the first few weeks of term.

Each group will be led by a Welcome Ambassador who will arrange a meet up for the group in the first or second week of term. Ambassadors will also commit to an hour or two a week to keep in touch with new students online during September and October, as well as jointly run a social media activity designed to welcome all students.

The benefits to you include:

  • Certified leadership training
  • Chance to win a new UPSU Award with a £250 prize, plus other vouchers and prizes based on feedback given by the new students
  • Higher Education Achievement Report (HEAR) entry, listing the skills and experience you have gained, plus a longer transcript which can be used on your CV and in job applications.

But hurry, as applications close on 25 March on a first come, first served basis. Please read the Job Description and apply using this Application Form. For further queries please email: welcomeambassadors@port.ac.uk.

The first training event takes place on Wednesday 28 March, from 1.00pm to 6.00pm in Third Space in the Students’ Union building.

  1. Love talking to new people and giving advice. Really interested in helping out.

  2. Hey, I would love to join the other Ambassadors in welcoming the new students of 2018. I’m very good at talking to people, I love doing it, so I think this would be a good opportunity for me.
