Change to photocopying service for University Staff

LibraryFrom 1 January 2018 the library will no longer be offering a photocopying service for staff.

Previously academic staff were able to request that library staff photocopy print journal articles and book chapters on their behalf, for collection at a later date or to be sent to their department. This service is now very rarely used and is at odds with the library’s policy to increasingly purchase electronic access to journals and to offer electronic inter-library loans wherever possible, so will no longer be offered.  Electronic resources have the advantage of being sustainable and accessible anywhere instantly, on and off campus, and can usually be printed out if required. A growing e-resource collection also means access to large back runs of many journal titles without losing physical space in the library.

Self-Service Photocopying is still available in the library for staff and students, a colour photocopier is located on the ground floor of the Library, beside the red post box near the Support Services desk.

N.B All photocopying must comply with copyright law; guidance is displayed near the photocopiers.

The Library also offers:

  • Scanners: On the standalone scanners, you can save the document to a memory device or email the scanned document
  • Staff & PhD students are able to borrow journals for a short period, to use as a teaching resource
  • If you are a member of staff and would like to make a digital copy of a book chapter, journal article or magazine available to a group of students you can request a digitisation

If you have additional needs and require a printed copy, please contact the Library team providing disability support: https://library.port.ac.uk/disability.html
