Sports Awards 2016

The Department of Sport and Recreation joined forces with the Students’ Union to host the Sports Awards on Wednesday 27 April. The event tSports Awards 15.16 Plasma-1ook place in Third Space Student Union building, to showcase the brilliant work of our coaches, volunteers, activators, AU sports clubs and athletes.

Both University and SU staff worked together with the Athletic Union Executive to deliver a great event, giving a platform to demonstrate the impact sport has on our students.

Sport and Recreation’s student workforce were recognised for their hard-work, commitment and enthusiasm working across a number of their sports development programmes.

The winners on the night were:

  • Commitment to the Community – Brooke Hockley, UP for Sport Cheerleading Coach
  • Coach of the Year – Adam Hitch, UOPFC Head Football Coach
  • Volunteer of the Year – Chris Chilcott, Rowing Activator for Get Active, Stay Active
  • Activator of the Year – David Hillier, Rugby Activator for Get Active, Stay Active
  • Outstanding Achievement – Emma Boucher, Tennis Activator for Get Active, Stay Active and President of the AU Tennis Club

With over 200 students attending the event, it was encouraging to see how engaged our student population is with sport and the opportunities students have to not only participate in sport and physical activity, but gain additional qualifications, work in the local community and have a fantastic student experience.
