National launch of the Dyslexic Academic Network

A new group for researchers and lecturers in Higher Education who have dyslexia is launching on Friday 18 March.

The Dyslexic Academic Network (DAN) is a support, advocacy, information and policy development forum for researchers and lecturers with dyslexia. Dyslexics are dispersed across the country, often isolated, difficult to reach and many are ‘hidden’.  This will be the first ever opportunity for dyslexic academics to work together in identifying the challenges they face, ways of overcoming barriers and to re-address the deficit model of dyslexia. Dyslexia

The aim is to help each other by sharing experiences and techniques, to write a code of practice and to challenge the deficit model of dyslexia.

The group currently consists of over 50 academics representing over 30 different academic disciplines across the sciences, arts, social sciences and humanities.  Every region of the country is represented as are all academic ranks including readers and Professors, senior managers, lecturers and visiting lecturers.

If you are interested in joining or attending the launch event please email Anne Morris at a.morris@londonmet.ac.uk before 9 March.
