Athena SWAN Conference 2015

Athena SWAN_featured imageThe Athena SWAN Conference this year will be held on Wednesday 4 March, from 1.30pm in Eldon Lecture Theatre 1.11, with the theme ‘Building Success’.

The Athena SWAN scheme focusses on how HEIs can better promote the careers of women in science, engineering, technology and mathematics (STEM) subjects. Previous conferences have taken a theme from one of our STEM Faculties, Science in 2013 and Technology in 2014. This year, the theme is taken from the Faculty of Creative and Cultural Industries and is based on architecture, construction and estates management.

The programme includes two very high profile external speakers. Jane Duncan, President Elect of the Royal Institute of British Architects, will be speaking on ‘Women in Architecture and Construction’. Andrew Miller, Chair of the Parliamentary Science and Technology Select Committee, will be addressing ‘How Universities can best improve career progression for women’.

The afternoon concludes with talks from Fiona Bell, the new Director of Estates and Campus Services, and an update on our Athena SWAN action plan by Catherine Harper, Dean of the Faculty of Creative and Cultural Industries.

Please put the date in your diaries and register through Eventbrite.
