Staff Sports Day 2014

Friday 20 June saw the 6th annual Staff Sports Day held in Ravelin park. A record 20 teams took part from different departments from right across the University battling out in the afternoon heat.

The event was organised and run by the Department of Sport and Recreation to help promote health and wellbeing across the University but also to raise as much money as possible for their charity, Brain Tumour Research.

The day began with a mass warm-up followed by six traditional events including the sack race, three-legged race and the popular dress-up race which involved running down the track wearing a floppy hat, a floral dress and oversized wellies.

The ‘It’s a Knock-out’ style obstacle course with its massive inflatable assault course preceded the team baton relay and the Tug ‘O’ War.

Portsmouth Football club’s ambassador, Alan Knight MBE, presented teams with rosettes and posed for photos in the Students’ Union bar.

This year’s winners were ‘Follow the Reader’ from Marketing, followed by ‘We Work Out’ from Sport and Exercise Science, with ‘The Incredibles’ from IS in third.

The Department of Sport and Recreation would like to thank all of the local businesses who donated prizes for the raffle, Portsmouth Trophies for supplying the rosettes and awards and Ashley Whitlock who gave up his time free of charge to photograph the event.

A final thank you goes to all of the team captains and participants who helped make the day such a success.

The event raised £1700 for Brain Tumour Research.
