  • Research and Innovation Support Staff Network (RISSNet) Launch!

This network is designed for members of staff who are involved in supporting Research and Innovation activities at the University.  The objectives of the forum are to highlight key issues and University activity in this area relevant to support staff as well as create a networking environment that stimulates new ideas and fosters best practice.

The first event will be held on Wednesday 16 July 2014 from 12.30pm–2.30pm at the Innovation Space building on Hampshire Terrace.  The format will include a talk on existing support for these services followed by discussion around the topic and a networking buffet lunch.

Updates:

  • Global Entrepreneurship Week – Showcase your expertise and students

The University is once again supporting the Global Entrepreneurship Week throughout the city.  Research and Innovation Services are looking for academics, researchers, students and support staff who can run (or are already running) an event that week to be part of the programme.

The week runs from 17–23 November 2014 and includes a series of events designed to encourage and nurture entrepreneurial behaviour through exposing the public and students to new ideas and knowledge. If you would like to be involved, please contact Research and Innovation Services (ris@port.ac.uk).

  • New round of the Research Development Fund 2014 is open

A new round of the Research Development Fund (RDF) is open for applications from Early Career Researchers with a submission deadline of September 19 2014.

For the purposes of this RDF, the REF 2014 definition is used. Early Career Researchers are defined as members of staff who started their careers as independent researchers on or after 1 August 2009 at any UK Higher Education Institution. An individual is deemed to have started their career as an independent researcher from the point at which they held a contract of employment of 0.2 FTE or greater, which included a primary employment function of undertaking ‘research’ or ‘teaching and research’.  ECR Staff on fixed term contracts and part-time members of staff may apply, but the duration of contract of all applicants on the proposed project must exceed the proposed end date of the project.

If you are unsure of your eligibility, please discuss this with your ADR.

Guidance for Applicants, a series of FAQs and an Application Form can be found at http://www.port.ac.uk/intranet/ris/opportunities/researchdevelopmentfund2014/.
