Chancellor opens new students’ Welcome Centre

The University’s Chancellor, Sandi Toksvig, has officially launched the new Welcome Centre at the Students’ Union.

In a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday, the Chancellor marked the opening of the new centre which was renovated over the summer. The building now has complete disabled access, including a fitting room in the shop, which was designed by student architects.

The event was attended by staff, students and sabbatical officers who are all delighted with the refurbishment. Cat Redding, President of the Students Union, said that she was very excited to launch the new space.

“The new Welcome Centre is a fantastic physical development of the building. It has gone from being some disused finance offices and a small shop run from the old nightclub cloakroom into a bright open space for students to enquire about Union services, buy merchandise, and find out how they can get involved in their Students’ Union. I really think it will have a positive impact on our students.”

Following the launch, the Chancellor joined more students in the faculty of Creative and Cultural Industries to undertake a recording for CCi TV.
