Mumps cases in Portsmouth

A small number of students in Portsmouth are unwell with what could be mumps.

The best protection against mumps is the MMR vaccine. If you have not already had two doses of MMR, make an appointment with your GP practice to get vaccinated. If you do not have a GP visit www.port.ac.uk/health.

If you feel you have symptoms of  mumps:

  • visit your GP
  • stay away from work or University until five days after the onset of your symptoms
  • wash your hands regularly, using soap and water
  • always use a tissue to cover your mouth and nose when you cough and sneeze. Throw the tissue in a bin immediately afterwards

The NHS has plenty of useful information on mumps.
