In 2015-16, more than 15,000 UK-based first-year students disclosed mental health issues when applying to University. This number excludes those accessing counselling and wellbeing services during their time at University. The Institute for Public Policy and Research surveyed UK Higher Education providers and found that over 60% of services noted an increase in demand of services in excess of 25%.

You are invited to attend this seminar to share your experiences of working with students, an awareness of University policy and support for students and the role of external healthcare agencies.

The draft seminar programme will begin with a presentation on Student Transitions by Dr Denise Meyer (Head of Student Wellbeing), followed by a relaunch of the ‘University Student Mental wellbeing guidelines for staff; students causing concern’.

If you are currently concerned about the wellbeing of a student please contact the Student Wellbeing Service for guidance on EXT 3157 or email wellbeing@port.ac.uk.

There will an opportunity for discussion and networking during the course of the seminar.
