Cycle with confidence: Free training

Did you get a bike for Christmas or have one sitting unloved in your shed? Do you want a boost to feel confident on the city’s roads? You can with Portsmouth City Council’s FREE cycle training for University of Portsmouth staff and students.

You’ll get help to ride with confidence, basic bike maintenance skills and some freebies to support you on your cycling journey. The training is one of a number of schemes the council has introduced to reduce pollution levels and improve air quality. Make the most of this offer as there are a limited number of spaces available on a first come first served basis.

The training is provided by Pedal Power and Motiv8 and takes a couple of hours.  Instructors will cover topics from planning quieter routes to the University, work or the shops, guidance on cycling safely with children on the road, and safely cycling across junctions. You can also learn basic mechanical skills to equip you to carry out minor repairs and maintenance to keep your bike on the road for longer.
