Birds eye view of the fortifications on the site of the new Sports Facility

Parts of the city’s historic fortifications were uncovered in two trenches, on the site of the new Sports Facility in Ravelin Park. The walls that have been revealed would have protected the town of Portsmouth during the 17th century. Before the trenches were filled, a drone captured the findings in this video.

You can find out more at an open event where Dr Sian Anthony and Les Capon from AOC Archaeology will present their findings followed by an opportunity for questions. Staff, students and members of the public are welcome to attend.

Date: Wednesday 12 December 2018

Time: 6:00pm to 7:30pm, Tea and coffee provided

Venue: Lecture Theatre 2, Richmond Building, Portland Street, Portsmouth, PO1 3DE

  1. I hope there will be another opportunity in the new year to hear about the findings. It’s a tricky time of year for many to attend an evening lecture/event, with so many competing demands on time.
