AOC Archaeology present their findings from excavations in Ravelin Park – 12 December

AOC Archaeology will present their findings from recent excavations in Ravelin Park at an open event on Wednesday 12 December 2018.

Two trenches were dug to record the site’s heritage, ahead of the building of a new £53m sports facility on the site. Old Portsmouth is surrounded by 17th century defensive fortifications that include walls, bastions, a moat and tall triangular constructions known as ravelins. The fortifications were demolished in the 19th century, but the archaeologists hoped to discover remains which could be compared to historic maps.

Dr Sian Anthony and Les Capon from AOC Archaeology will present their findings followed by an opportunity for questions. Staff, students and members of the public are welcome to attend.

Date: Wednesday 12 December 2018
Time: 6:00pm to 7:30pm, Tea and coffee provided
Venue: Lecture Theatre 2, Richmond Building, Portland Street, Portsmouth, PO1 3DE
