University sports scholar to represent Team GB

Sports scholar Hebe Hemming

A University of Portsmouth Sports and Exercise Science student and sports scholar is set to represent Team GB in the Women’s International Match racing series this week.

Hebe Hemming, a second year student and under 19 World Sailing silver medalist, is off to the US Virgin Islands this week for almost two weeks to compete in the Women’s International Match racing series.

The sports scholar has previously represented Team GB in the Women’s International Match racing series in Sweden and Russia and at the Eurosafs Youth Medal Racing in Poland.

Hebe said: “I’m so excited for the event. It’s a chance to race against the top Women’s Match racers in the world. The standard of sailors at the event is extremely high.

“We have been training hard both in the gym and on the water so hopefully we will do well.”

Hebe has been sailing since the age of 9 when her parents encouraged her to try the sport out and has been competing since the age of 11.

The event in St. Thomas is the fifth and final event of the Women’s International Match racing series and will see 27 teams compete for top spot.
