Overseas students will be welcomed to the University during International and EU Orientation Week

University of Portsmouth Global Office will be welcoming new overseas students from Tuesday 11 to Sunday 16 September for Orientation Welcome Week.

The week will help students from around the world get used to life in Portsmouth and discover the city with activities such as an information fair, a trip to IKEA and even opportunities to try a new sport or traditional British tea and cake.

Students will be able to meet UoP Global support staff, sort out their registration and paperwork and book a selection of tours, sports, and social events.

Activities during the week

An airport pickup service from London Heathrow will be run by UoP Global staff on Tuesday 11 and Wednesday 12 September with transfer to halls or private accommodation. Students can then check in with the UoP Global Office in Nuffield Centre, register on their course and get the relevant ID checks before being given their student cards and welcome packs with detailed faculty specific orientation programmes.

On Thursday 13 September undergraduate welcome presentations will take place in Richmond LT1 and a postgraduate presentation with a networking session will take place in Portland 1.74 and the Atrium.

Friday 14 September will see an Information and Support Fair in 3rd Space, upstairs in the Students’ Union. Student Support Services, banks and local organisations such as New Theatre Royal will be there to give students an idea of what services are available to them. There will also be workshops from Student Finance and the Academic Skills Unit (ASK) after the fair.

On Friday evening there will also be a pizza night social and movie night so that the students can socialise and get to know each other.

The coach trip to IKEA will happen over the weekend and will be a great opportunity for the students to pick up any items of furniture or anything else they may need for their new home. Sporting events and taster sessions, as well as a selection of guided walks and bus tours, will also happen over the weekend.

The week starting 17 September is the start of the new term, which will include department inductions and Freshers’ Fayre as well as a welcome party with fish and chips at the seaside at the end of the week.

If you have any queries regarding the event, please contact International Student Advice Manager Alana.holland@port.ac.uk telephone ext. 5116.
