Want to study, research or teach in the USA? Apply for a Fulbright Award

Fulbright alumna Dr Catherine Mottram

Come along to an information session on a prestigious award which could fund your study, research or teaching in the USA.

The Fulbright Awards fund opportunities for about 40 British citizens per year to pursue postgraduate study or post-doctoral and professional research in the United States. These grants typically cover 6-12 months of postgraduate study or 3-10 months of research or lecturing.

The information session on 24 May will be run by Fulbright alumni and UoP academics, Dr Catherine Mottram (School of Earth and Environmental Sciences) and Prof Darek Górecki (School of Pharmacy and Biomedical Sciences) with closing remarks by Chris Chang, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Global Engagement).

Catherine was a Fulbright scholar from 2014-2015 at the University of California, Santa Barbara, where she spent 12 months researching ‘geological clocks’ at its world-leading geochronology laboratories.

Catherine said: “Fulbright has given me the opportunity to conduct exciting research in one of the most beautiful places in the world. Living in California had been a true joy. I have explored deserts, mountains, deserted islands, huge forests, and seen so many new rocks.

“Fulbright is not just about the data I have produced in the lab, it is about truly living and learning through seeing, doing, travelling, eating, chatting, sharing and just being in a place- it’s an immersive experience, of being an honorary (tea drinking) American. The ripples of my Fulbright experience will be affecting all aspects of both my personal and professional life for the foreseeable future.”
