University passes Cyber Security Assessment

The University recently underwent a cyber security assessment and is now Cyber Essentials PLUS certified.

Cyber Essentials is a UK Government sponsored best practice framework for cyber security. The highest level of certification “Cyber Essentials PLUS”, necessitates a thorough and independent audit of the organisation’s IT systems. Achieving this award provides substantial assurance that the University meets a recognised benchmark for cyber security. In addition Cyber Essentials certification is increasingly becoming a mandatory requirement in contractual dealings with the UK Government and associated bodies.

Robbie Walker, who is the Security Architect from Information Services, said: “Cyber security does not stand still.  Threats evolve, new threats emerge and keeping our risk of exposure to a realistic minimum will remain an ongoing challenge.”

Sarah Duckering, Director of Research and Innovation Services added:  “Conducting research in partnership with industry is a core function of the University and our track record within the Security, Risk and Defence sectors in particular is strong and growing.  This recognition will allow us to build on this strength, giving the organisations that we work with the assurance that we are a committed partner for their research and development activities.” Sarah Duckering, Director of Research and Innovation Services.
