The academic year is changing as of September 2018

The structure of the teaching year is changing as of September 2018 to provide you with more consolidation time during the year. This will result in a slightly longer year, with the Teaching Block 2 assessment period ending on 21 June 2019.

In response to student feedback, consolidation weeks are being added during each teaching block; there will also be an assessment period and/or directed activity between each teaching block. These breaks from regular timetabled teaching will allow you to consolidate your learning, prepare for assessment, or take part in additional activities organised by your department. These could be activities such as a group project, assigned reading, a reflective journal, or scheduled activities such as field trips, work-based learning and presentations.

What to be aware of:

  • The 2018/19 academic year will start as usual in September
  • The length of your holidays will not be affected
  • You will have a consolidation week during Teaching Block 1 and Teaching Block 2, and there will be a two-week period between teaching blocks for assessment and/or directed activity
  • The academic year will end on 21 June 2019 in line with the end of most housing contracts
  • There is no impact on your tuition fees.
