Burnaby road railway bridge to be replaced

Burnaby Road and Park Road will be closed from Sunday 11 February to Saturday 17 February to allow for the Burnaby Road railway bridge to be replaced.

Students and Staff are advised to walk through Anglesea Building to get to lectures and seminars during this time.

Diversions will be in place for pedestrians and road-users from 8pm Sunday 11 February until 6am Saturday 17 February.

Trains will be replaced by buses that will run every ten minutes from 6am-11:20pm while the works are taking place. Commuters are advised to check the Network Rail website before travelling.

  1. What effect will this have on access to the university car parks in that area?

    • Hi, staff will need to access car parks from Queen Street but they will still be available.

  2. Will we have access to Milldam car park if we come in via the back streets, avoiding going under the bridge?

    • Yes the car parks will still be available and will just need to be accessed from Queen Street.

  3. There has just been an email from Fiona Bell that mentions changes to the university bus service because of ‘road closures’. The only road closures are Park/Burnaby road. Why is the bus service affected? Also the proposed stop changes make the walk for bus users heading to the northern quarter unnecessarily long, from UPSU up to and through Anglesea building, rather than alighting at Eldon and crossing through Guildhall walk. Can this be clarified please?
Otherwise driving seems a better option and we know that the traffic through queen st. route will be heavy.

    • Hi, Park Road and Burnaby Road are not the only road closures and the and the bus company have had to agree revised routes because it wouldn’t be possible to get through to the closed bus stops as a result of all the road diversions being put in place.

  4. Will we have access to the bike shed behind Park Building?

    • Access should be granted by Faculty rather than Estates but there should be no reason that access to the bike shed would be affected by the works this week.
