Excitement builds for Dance Off spectacular

Almost 300 local school children and street dance performers will be taking part in the University of Portsmouth’s annual Dance Off event on Thursday 1 February at the Kings Theatre in Southsea.

This is the 14th year of Dance Off

The University’s Sport and Recreation team worked in partnership with University of Portsmouth Dance Club to recruit 21 student coaches who have been delivering street dance coaching in 13 local primary and secondary schools. Working under Sport and Recreation’s community outreach programme, UP for Sport, coaches delivered ten weeks of coaching in schools culminating in the spectacular Dance off event.

Now in its 14th year, the event involves 233 primary and secondary school pupils and 40 children from the Southsea-based street dance school ‘Most Wanted’. The theme for this year’s Dance Off is ‘Empowerment’.

Zoe Monk, Sports Development Officer, said: “We’re so proud to be in our 14th year of the Dance Off. The coaches and children have worked so hard and it’s fantastic to celebrate on a wonderful evening with them and their friends and family.”

Tickets are available from the King’s Theatre website: http://kingsportsmouth.co.uk/whats-on/dance/school-dance-off/ or from the Box Office 023 9282 8282.
