Student attendance card reader recording begins on Monday 8 January

51493On Monday 8 January 2018, from the start of Teaching Block 2, students will be required to record their attendance at all timetabled events. Students will be able to do this at each event by tapping their Student Card on the recently installed card readers that are located at the entrance, or just inside, all timetabled University teaching rooms and lecture theatres.

The purpose of the readers is to record students’ attendance at their timetabled events. This process applies to all on-campus Levels 4 to 7 taught students, i.e. home, EU, Channel Islands and International students.

There will no longer be the need for staff to take registers, or enter attendance and absence data. Authorised absences will require manual inputting by administration offices. This new method for recording attendance has greatly improved and streamlined the work involved in collecting this data. The Student Attendance Monitoring and Engagement working group will continue to develop the policy in this area, in the meantime Faculties can continue to use their current approach for managing student attendance and engagement.

This change is being communicated directly to students by email this week. A news item for students can be read here and there is a MyPort article which explains more about Student attendance monitoring.

  1. Hi,

Link to student page does not work. Please advise.

    • Thanks Donna,

The link has now been updated.

      Kind regards

  2. Can you tell us who in the Student Attendance Monitoring and Engagement working group we can contact with questions/comments/suggestions? As there are many issues being thrown up with this policy already and it’s only day 3.

    • Hi Thomas,

Questions and comments about the policy can be sent to and the team will be able to pick this up.

      Many thanks
