The Academy is the national academy of academics, learned societies and practitioners in the social sciences. Its mission is to promote social science in the United Kingdom for the public benefit.

Professor Weait said: “I am absolutely delighted to have received this honour – it is really lovely to have the research and policy work I have done over the years recognised like this by my peers in the social sciences.”

Professor Weait ‘s interests lie in the field of criminal law and public health, with particular emphasis on the impact of law on HIV prevention. He has published widely in this area, and was a member of the Advisory Group for the United Nations Development Programme’s Global Commission on HIV and the Law.

Professor Weait will have his Fellowship Certificate presented to him at the Academy’s President’s lunch in December.
