For the 11th year running, the University of Portsmouth has excelled in the National Student Survey (NSS) and is ranked in the top 15 per cent of institutions in the UK for student satisfaction.

The independent survey results showed that overall satisfaction is 88 per cent, which is four per cent above the national average, up from three per cent last year.

University of Portsmouth Vice-Chancellor Professor Graham Galbraith said: “This is fantastic news for the University and an excellent reflection of our commitment to provide an outstanding student experience.

“We work hard to ensure that we make continual improvements to meet the needs and expectations of our students. We put the education of our students first by investing in outstanding staff and physical resources to support learning and teaching. For example, we integrate research, professional practice and real-world learning into our courses, so students learn alongside experts and develop the skills needed in today’s economy.”

Across the University 19 courses achieved 100 per cent overall satisfaction:

More than half of Portsmouth’s courses have student satisfaction rates of over 90 per cent.

Overall Portsmouth students are satisfied with all aspects of their experience.  The University scored above the UK average for all nine question groups in the survey. Students rated the teaching on their course (86 per cent) and learning resources (88 per cent) particularly highly.

The National Student Survey is an annual survey of all final year undergraduates in the UK. They are asked to give feedback on the quality of their teaching, assessment and feedback, academic support, organisation and management, learning resources and personal development.

The response rate this year has been excellent with 78 per cent of students completing the survey, 11 per cent above the England sector average.
