Developing the travel plan

park-and-rideOver 1,700 staff and 1,000 students responded to the travel survey, providing a wealth of information that informs the development of the Travel Plan, as part of the Estate Masterplan. Thank you to everyone that took part and congratulations to the winners of the survey prize draw, both Jeannette May, Human Resources (staff) and Kevin Reading, BSc Creative Media Technologies (student) won Gunwharf vouchers.

Following an initial review of the data we have some clear areas where we are already contributing to a sustainable approach to travel:

  • Over 50% of staff commute to work by public transport or walk or cycle
  • Over 90% of students travel from their accommodation to University by public transport, walking or cycling

An in-depth review of the results including the further detailed survey that many staff and students also contributed to is now taking place and the University is working closely with Portsmouth City Council and Hampshire County Council to develop the Travel Plan. This will look to support and encourage sustainable modes of travel to and from our sites through a range of measures. The review is likely to be completed by the Autumn and following the approval process will be shared with staff and students.
