Further Degree Apprenticeship opportunity for staff

postgraduateThe University is pleased to announce that, following recent announcements about the University Degree Apprenticeship Scheme, another opportunity is shortly to become available.

This is the University’s Level 7 Strategic Leadership MBA which will be available as a Degree Apprenticeship with effect from September 2017, subject to final validation of the programme.

This Master Degree Apprenticeship, as well as providing strategic leadership skills, will lead to the following qualifications:

  • MBA (Strategic Leadership)
  • Full Level 7 Apprenticeship Certification

The course will last two academic years and is offered on a day-release basis from work. This means that, every two weeks, a full-time employee will work 30 hours in their job for that week and one day in Portsmouth Business School (PBS) (NB. this is a correction of the all-staff email sent on 19/06/17 which stated it was one day every week) on the Degree Apprenticeship programme. Further information on eligibility criteria and the details of the programme are available here.

We are making between five and ten places on the MBA Apprenticeship programme available for University staff. We would therefore like to invite expressions of interest for entry to this programme by existing full-time University staff, who are on an open-ended contract or a fixed-term contract which does not expire before the end of July 2019.

We anticipate that this Degree Apprenticeship scheme may be popular with staff and managers alike and this is the reason for introducing a university-wide initial expressions of interest application, which will allow us to ensure the maximum spread of staff potentially applying for the programme.

As some of you may be aware, the University delivers a very successful Executive MBA programme and it may be that some staff will have already investigated this as an option for their professional development. If you are in this situation, you may wish to review your options and consider the apprenticeship programme as an alternative but please note that you will need your line manager’s full support in undertaking this or any apprenticeship programme.

Further information

If you are interested in finding out more about the MBA apprenticeship programme and whether it would suit your requirements, the programme managers would be delighted to discuss this with you, and your line manager if possible.

A Q&A drop in session has been arranged on Tuesday 4 July 2017 between 12.00pm and 1.00pm in the Purple Door Boardroom. There is also a Postgraduate Open Evening being held on Wednesday 21 June 2017 from 5.00pm in Richmond Building which you could attend if you would prefer a time outside usual working hours.

If you are interested in expressing interest in this programme, please complete the expressions of interest form which can be found on this page, by Friday 7 July 2017.

Where there are more expressions of interest than places, a waiting list will be created and individuals will be contacted when future programmes become available.

Rightly so a member of staff asked about the rule around full time staff only being able to apply. I have checked with HR and this is a requirement of the government and it scheme and not the University.
