Sports volunteers required for September 2017

Sport & Rec-160Would you like to develop your skills and increase your employability, whilst helping students and staff participate in sports at the University?

The Department of Sport and Recreation is looking for passionate individuals to join their team of dedicated sports volunteers.

We are currently looking to recruit new volunteers to start delivering sport sessions from September 2017. We have nine roles available, each in a different sport and offering various hours and bursary awards.

The roles will require roughly four to six hours of your time each week, during term-time only. The roles will last the length of the academic year (September 2017–May 2018).

Applications will close on Monday 17 April. For more information on the roles, including how to apply, please click here.

Make an impact in sport at university!

These roles will provide support to various programmes within Sport and Recreation; namely our Get Active, Stay Active programme and our Campus Sport programme.

Get Active, Stay Active is available all year round to students and staff at the University. It offers free or reduced cost sessions in a variety of sports. The sessions are delivered by our dedicated student volunteer team.

Campus Sport offers weekly organised leagues in a number of different sports to students and staff at the University. Our student volunteers help to deliver the leagues and tournaments.

Increase your employability!

Last year, 94 per cent of volunteers surveyed felt the skills they had developed through their role increased their employability. Below are the top five skills our volunteers felt they had gained or developed:

• Communication
• Initiative
• Self-Confidence
• Leadership
• Time Management

What happens next?

Once you’ve applied for a role and applications have closed, staff at the Department of Sport and Recreation will shortlist applications on Tuesday 18 April.

Shortly after this date, you will be notified if you were successful for interview or not. Interviews will take place week commencing Monday 24 April at Spinnaker Sports Centre.

If you have any questions about the roles or the application process, please contact Nadine Doutre on 023 9284 3542 or nadine.doutre@port.ac.uk.
