Wear a Hat Day

WAHD_300x180‘Wear a Hat Day’ will see thousands of people wearing big, bold and glamorous hats up and down the country – all in aid of Brain Tumour Research.

Brain Tumour Research has a dedicated Research Centre of Excellence at the University of Portsmouth. Due to this important partnership, the Department of Sport and Recreation have worked year-on-year to help raise funds for this worthy cause. Over the last nine years, we’ve helped to raise £9655.68 in total!

On Thursday 30 March*, we would like everyone at the University of Portsmouth to wear a hat to class or work and make a donation in aid of Brain Tumour Research. All the Sport and Recreation staff will be wearing silly hats to encourage you – and that includes our class instructors too!

How can you get involved?

  • Attending a sports class? Work up a sweat in your silliest hat – our instructors will be doing the same! You can make a donation at the end of the session for a great cause.
  • Take a post-workout hat selfie using our photo booth in Spinnaker Sports Centre – the best selfie will win a prize!
  • Wear a hat to university or work – with approval of course – and be sure to make a donation!

You can make your donation online by clicking here, or donation buckets will be available on the day in both reception areas and with class instructors.

*Please note that although ‘Wear A Hat Day’ is recognised as Friday 31 March, we will be hosting our event on Thursday 30 March.

  1. Why are we doing this on the wrong day? Is there a particular reason, because it seems a bit weird?

    • Hello Paula,

Due to staffing issues, we are not able to support this event on Friday 31st March. With it also being the last day of term, we suspect many students will be travelling home on Friday. We’d really like to make a bigger impact with this event and so made the decision to host a day earlier.
