Up to 600 pupils, aged 14–19, will specialise in advanced manufacturing, science, technology, engineering or maths, alongside studying core GCSE subjects and participating in a wide range of sporting and enrichment activities. UTC Portsmouth will provide this specialised training to address workforce shortages in these areas across the Solent Region.
The UTC is working with the University and employers, including the Royal Navy, BAE Systems, Airbus, Land Rover BAR and NATS to develop the curriculum and pupil opportunities preparing pupils to be ‘work ready’ upon leaving. UTC Portsmouth joins sixty existing UTCs operating across England.
Ciaran O’Dowda, the UTC Portsmouth Principal said: ‘I am sure that you have heard about this brand new college as the University of Portsmouth has been a vital partner in its creation.
‘If you have a son or daughter, currently in Year 11 of secondary school, you may wish to seriously consider UTC Portsmouth for their post-16 studies. Our college is appealing to students who wish to continue with a largely STEM-based education (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) with tangible links to employment and higher education after college.’
Year 12 applications close on 15 January 2017. Applications can be made online in five minutes. Limited spaces available.
