New overseas partnerships cemented

Myanmar flagThe University’s vision for creating a network of strategic global partnerships is making headway thanks to a new overseas collaboration. Chindwin College in Myanmar will provide University of Portsmouth engineering and business courses in partnership with the PSB Academy in Singapore.

Chindwin College is Myanmar’s premier engineering institute with a wealth of experience in delivering HNDs and has recently expanded to deliver business courses. The PSB Academy has extensive experience delivering its own diplomas and degrees awarded by UK and Australian universities and significant reach and links across South East Asia.

The first students will enrol at the end of November, with teaching commencing in December for two courses; the BEng (Hons) Electronic Engineering (International) and the BEng (Hons) Mechanical Engineering (International). In March 2017 the college will deliver the BA (Hons) Business and Management and the BEng (Hons) Civil Engineering (International). Around 70 students will enrol in the first intake and graduate in 2017 and 2018.

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Graham Galbraith, and Pro Vice-Chancellor, Professor Pal Ahluwalia, are visiting the institutions in the next week for the official launch in Yangon, Myanmar. Professor Galbraith said that the partnership comes in the context of significant growth in the number of degree programmes being delivered through international partnerships and that this partnership is a natural strategic fit for the University. He said:

“This is a key partnership for the University. Myanmar is growing in prominence as an emerging economy with significant future potential. This partnership allows us to develop the educational skills that the economy needs and in so doing grow the global reach of our University. I look forward to success in this venture and its future expansion to increase student choice by covering more of our courses.”MalaysiaGroup

Tin Latt, President of Chindwin College, said: “This partnership comes at an opportune moment, as Myanmar transitions into a new phase of development and growth.”

Professors Graham Galbraith and Pal Ahluwalia will visit the PSB Academy in Singapore this afternoon before attending a launch event on Saturday at Chindwin College.
