Evacuation around Gunwharf Quays this afternoon (16 November)

Latest update (3.00pm): Ferry services now reopened and getting back to normal.

Latest update (1.41pm): No Isle of Wight ferries, hovercraft or Gosport ferries running until further notice.

Latest update (1.23pm): Roads will be closed around Gunwharf until 5pm

We would like to make all staff and students aware that they should avoid the Gunwharf Quays this afternoon (16 November). There is an evacuation of the area to allow for the safe disposal of a World War II device found in Portsmouth Harbour, which will be towed out to sea.

The area affected includes the Wight Link terminal, Old Portsmouth, Portsmouth Harbour station, Gosport ferry station and the Hot Walls areas.

For further information, please visit the Hampshire Constabulary website. Any questions about travel disruption should be directed to the operator.

We do not know how long the road and transport closures will last but will publish any updates here when we receive them.
