Deception Research

Researchers at the University of Portsmouth are interested in how memory fades over time, specifically the differences between this memory for truth tellers and liars.

In this study you will be allocated to one of two possible missions. Depending on which task you are allocated to, you may be required to lie when later interviewed about your mission. The study will be in two parts.

The first stage is comprised of the mission and interview (45-60 mins) and the second stage will be an interview two weeks later (20-30 mins).

All participants will be paid £10 for their participation. If you are able to tell a convincing story to the interviewer, you will be entered into a draw to win one of three possible prizes; £150, £100 and £50! The study will take part in King Henry Building.

Volunteers must be:

  • Age: 18+
  • Gender: Either
  • Staff/Student: Both
