Happy students: The University has excelled once again in the National Student Survey

For the tenth year running the University of Portsmouth has excelled in the National Student Survey (NSS) and out-ranked the sector average for student satisfaction across all areas.

The independent survey results showed that overall satisfaction is 89 per cent, which is above the national average of 86 per cent.

Vice-Chancellor Graham Galbraith said: “These results are an excellent reflection of the University’s commitment to providing a student experience of the highest possible standard.

“We take feedback very seriously and work hard to ensure that we make continual improvements to meet the needs and expectations of our students. We are investing significantly in the areas which are important to our students and it is very encouraging to see these improvements recognised in this year’s Survey results.”

Across the University, 19 individual courses achieved 100 per cent satisfaction:

Digital Media; Television and Broadcasting; American Studies; Applied Languages; English Language; International Development Studies; Accountancy and Financial Management; Finance and Management; Business Information Technology; Human Geography; Applied Physics; Dental Hygiene and Dental Therapy; Palaeontology; Sports Development; Therapeutic Radiography; DipHE Operating Department Practice; Forensic Computing; Mechanical Engineering; and finally the Partnership Degree Programme, which allows working people to study for a degree without leaving their jobs.

Sport and Exercise Science was also rated highly – achieving a 99 per cent satisfaction score.

The response rate this year has been excellent with 80 per cent of students completing the survey, a significant increase from last year’s response rate of 72 per cent and seven per cent above the sector average.

The survey asks final year students across the UK to give feedback on the quality of their teaching, assessment and feedback, academic support, organisation and management, learning resources and personal development.
